MAKERVIEW: meet Sharon Garafalow from Cupcakes and Cutlery

Why she’s rad: The woman can throw a party. It’s very clear that Sharon takes fun seriously which is something we can get behind. A Lego dance party for your sixth birthday? Good luck topping that. They even had a dance contest. Sharon has a whole slew of craft tutorials including balloon hangers, confetti shooters, pace marker garland,  and plastic ruffled streamers but her parties are insanely inspiring all on their own. Follow her tweets and pins for more and find all her party ideas on Cupcakes and Cutlery.

Five words to describe your style… Messy, undone, funny, eclectic, modernFavorite DIY gift to give…Make your own cocktail kit with a cute little bag.  I gave them out to girlfriends for Christmas last year and they turned out really cute.
(Find her tutorial here. Her choice of cocktail gets her a +1 in our book.)
Tool you can’t live without… Glue Dots.  I’m clumsy so a glue gun is not the best idea for me.  Glue Dots can be used in so many different ways from making garland to hemming fabric.  They are a miracle tool for me.Always wanted to try… Glass etching.  It sounds super fun and there must be tons of things you can do with it! Greatest DIY triumph or tragedy…My greatest DIY triumph is having Melanie of You Are My Fave ask me to create some projects for her.  I am not all that handy, in my opinion, but for her to like what I do makes me really happy.  I love her style and she is an inspiration.Secret inspiration spot or shop…I’m inspired by Australian and UK home magazines.  The people they profile have a way of making rooms look both rough and beautiful and homey at the same time.  They are often quirky with a hint of darkness that I like.  Also by fashion magazines.  I’m obsessed with the Louis Vuitton ads right now that are all browns with amazing hats with fur puffs.  Gorgeous.  There has to be a craft idea in there somewhere. But I am ridiculously inspired by fellow crafters like Jenny of Hank and Hunt and Lauren of A Fabulous Fete.  Both are so creative and make it look easy. The song you totally rock out to while making..Music is my everything and we always have it on.  I can’t pick just one song although I am totally OBSESSED with both 5 Seconds by Twin Shadow (if the 80’s movie ‘Valley Girl’ and a video game had a baby it would be this song) and Monte Carlo by U.S. Royalty (which totally plays to my fave 70’s music vibe).

But here is what else I would be listening to while crafting.

Most importantly(!) what is the best fuel for making: ice cream or tacos? Tacos.  And then ice cream. :)  I’m not a light eater. : )

Thanks Sharon!
